The Evereni are a sentient humanoid species with slate-gray skin and black eyes, originally from the planet Everon. Their world was ravaged by the Great Storm, which led to centuries of war and ultimately forced the survivors to flee into the galaxy. The Evereni became untrusting due to the corruption of their governments and their ability to perceive betrayal. As a result, they became outlaws and developed a reputation for deception and treachery.

Description

A nomadic species, long separated from their homeworld, the Evereni’s past has made many of them deeply distrusting of everything around them, even their own people.

Humanoid in appearance, the Evereni stand apart with their slate grey skin and their pitch black-eyes. Like Zeltrons, Pantorans and other near humans, some xenologists suspect the Evereni come from the same distant ancestors that humans also come from.

Native to the stormy planet of Everon, the Evereni once lived in harmony with their unstable home. Trusting the planet to let them live peacefully with nature, the Evereni were completely caught off guard when a sudden storm, known as the Great Storm, emerged from the planet’s core and wiped away thousands of cities and millions of lives. The Evereni felt betrayed by their own planet and felt as if they could no longer trust their home soil. The surviving Evereni then turned to each other, and put their trust in their institutions but the corruption of their governments led to strife and centuries of war, dwindling Everon’s population even more.

Their numbers greatly reduced and their society in ruins, the species evolved to be untrusting to the extent that they knew the exact moment when someone would betray

them, realising the exact moment when the interests of two parties changed. As such, individual Evereni only trust themselves, so not even Evereni families can work together. Eventually, the last survivors of the Evereni left Everon for the wider galaxy. Not even on the Republic’s radar during their centuries of strife and disaster, the Evereni found themselves in a new galaxy and surrounded by trillions of new and to them- dangerous and untrustworthy aliens. The High Republic’s expansionary works seek to link the galaxy even closer together, something the few Evereni remaining in the galaxy have no interest in. Evereon, located on the edge of Wild Space is a stormy and dangerous world.

Every thousand years the planet experiences a massive storm that requires the Evereni to dedicate resources and planning to defending against it. However the Great Storm that engulfed Everon’s surface was unlike any of the routine massive storms from years past, arriving without any warning and devastating the planet’s defenses beyond repair. Now, the only parts of Everon not engulfed by storms are rocky, grey mountainous peaks whose tops are dotted with long abandoned villages and ports. The whole planet now has an eerie, dead feeling, a graveyard planet for a dwindling and long-gone species.

The native language of the Evereni is mostly forgotten even amongst the few members of its species in the galaxy. Now, all Evereni speak Basic, their alien accent lending the language a cold, measured sound.
