Lost Cargo
Date of Scene: 07 February 2024
Location: Meltdown Cafe - Corellian Sector - Nar Shaddaa
Synopsis: Another day, another job for Volken Mons.
Cast of Characters: Baelin Kalregar, Volken Mons

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
The Meltdown Cafe is a popular joint on Nar Shaddaa, often frequented by bounty hunters and others looking for business dealings that are...less than legal in the majority of the galaxy.

It's a fairly busy night tonight, and a certain redheaded spice dealer--among other things--is sitting at the bar enjoying the famous Sunburn.

Volken Mons has posed:
Even when not trying to be noticed, it's hard for one particular mandalorian to not stand out amongst the crowd, even in a space like this.

Volken Mons cuts a gargantuan looming shape that boredly makes its way through the bar from the entrance, passing through the crowd, towards a table large enough to accomodate his particular dimensions and levels of immensity. Even were he not in his full mandalorian attire the sheer scope of the giant would do much to move the crowds aside like a river parting to let an ornery boulder pass through. The armor and his helmet being donned does a signifigant job of just plussing that all up. Not to mention the weaponry.

But he seems content to simply set his gargantuan body down upon a sturdy crate like seat and then leans back to look over the place with a languid bored expression to his body language.

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
Kalregar--no doubt in addition to the rest of the patrons in the establishment--notices the hulking Mandalorian as he lumbers in and sits himself down, and it immediately catches his interest.

He moves away from the bar and approaches the table where Volken is now seated.

"You look bored." he remarks casually. "Mind if I join you?" he asks, his tone friendly.

Volken Mons has posed:
"Is it that obvious?" rumbles Volken's deep voice as he adjusts his position slightly and leans forward, the very movements alone seeming to send a tremble through the floor and tables around him.

"I'm wearing a helmet, I can't possibly 'look' like anything unless I'm just that transparent with the way I'm sitting down....."

His voice is mildly bemused but also non committal and he notably doesn't immediately grant permission to join him...and instead just lets the silence linger for a half moment longer.

And then he finally gives a slight gesture, wiggling enormous roughened fingers to grant permission to sit...

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"Kind of, yeah." Kalregar chuckles, sitting down when permission is finally granted. "I mean, you're...noticeable." Stating the obvious, certainly.

He haves a server droid over. "I'll buy you a round, how about it?" the man offers.

Volken Mons has posed:
"Ah by noticable y'must be referring to this armor. " responds the goliath easily with a casual wave of a massive hand and a sardonic if mildly bemused tone to his deep voice.

"Yeah, I get that from time to time. It's almost like there's some sort of reputation associated with this get up. "

One can almost hear the grin in his voice despite that tank turret of a helmet on his head.

At the offer to buy him a drink, Volken remains silent once again. The heavy beat clearly one wherein he's appraising the man across from him and an air of expectation and then.

"Oh yeah sure, sure. Surprise me."

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
Kalregar nods and hands some credits over to the server, who takes them and heads off to likely just prepare a random drink from the menu.

"Something like that," The man nods when the armor is mentioned. "So, you a bounty hunter? Looking for work?"

Volken Mons has posed:
Volken's armor creaks as he leans back again. He lets that ponderous silence fall over the conversation once more, just sort of staring at Baelin for a few seconds before his heavy rumbling voice vibrates otu of his helmet again:

"I like keepin' busy. Maybe you can consider me....a jack of all trades. I do all sorts of work if I'm bored enough...and like you pointed out, I seem to be bored."

That silence follows again as his hand rests on the table now and he returns to that long looming study of Baelin. Then he speaks again:

"So what is it? You obviously didn't come over here just cause you think I'm pretty or want to see how big my biceps actually are..... You got somethin' on yer mind.... You had yer pick of the bar but I caught your attention."

That grin seems to return to his voice as he rumbles, "ISometimes I like gettin' straight to the point.."

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"That's right." Kalregar replies, nodding. "Well it just so happens that I recently hired someone to get an important shipment to Eiram. Of course it's got a tracker, but just yesterday it made an unscheduled drop out of hyperspace several parsecs away from the destination, and hasn't moved since. Whatever's happened, I'm almost certain it means trouble. Pirates, marauders...what have you.

"Either way, I'm probably going to need some extra muscle to help deal with the issue, whatever it may be. I need to make sure I can either fix the problem and send my smuggler on his way, or secure the shipment myself if that's not possible."

Volken Mons has posed:
"Lost cargo, eh?"

Volken doesn't move, remaining leaned back casually in that languid relaxed position like some sort of overly muscled bodybuilder Wampa in a lounge chair. His fingers drum steadily on the table as he ponders the request, once again letting silence linger in that heavy ponderous fashion.

"What you see is what you get." he finally speaks, "I recently picked up some work that needed more tip toeing around that I care t'do. If you want me to bust in, grab it and your guy and tear things apart....I'm the guy. If you're lookin' for something more discreet...that aint me. You got a ship to get me there and back?"

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"You'll be accompanying myself and my crew on my ship the Red Dawn." Kalregar replies, nodding. He arches a brow at him. "I'm sorry, but who the kriff hired you to do sneaking?" He shakes his head. "No, I'm expecting pirates of some kind. No need for stealth. Just some smooth talking which I'll handle, and if things go south--which they most undoubtedly will--you bust 'em up."

Volken Mons has posed:
To that the giant lets out a loud rough laugh.

"i'm leavin' a few steps out of the story. It's kind of unbelievable so don't worry about it. Point is, I'm effective doin' the sort of things that I look built to do."

He shrugs lightly and then finally reaches both hands up to remove his helmet as the droid returns with the drink.

His expressive features, now visible, pull into a lpsided smirk though his messy black hair falls about his face to obscure parts of it as he peers back at Baelin with his dark eyes.

"...Sounds fair, alright. I can use the detour.."

The unspoken question lingers in the air and then the giant asks, "...And payment? And is there anything I need to know about this cargo in advance you don't want me accidentally finding out and getting surprised by?"

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"Excellent. Ten thousand credits up front, and...depending on how things go, potentially more." Kalregar tells him. "The cargo's nothing special. But let's just say my client is -very- wealthy, and very keen on receiving the shipment as quickly as possible. But you shouldn't have to worry too much about it. Your job is destroying those pirates, or whomever happens to be in our way."

Volken Mons has posed:
The giant purses his lips in thought, seeming to ponder this answer and the amount being offered before he simply nods his head.

"Fair enough. Sounds good to me. ..."

Volken lifts a heavy hand up, offering the huge thing for Baelin to grasp if he dares as he slowly gives the red haired man a growing grin, "I think we can work with that, Mr......"

He pauses, giving him a chance to say his name as he decides on if he's going to risk the bones of his hand.

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"Baelin Kalregar." Kalregar answers, accepting the shake regardless of the hand's enormity. "And yourself?" he asks. "I take it you're Mandalorian, or at least you robbed one once."

Volken Mons has posed:
The huge mans grin grows even larger as the handshake is accepted. Perhaps that was a test in and of itself, to see if Baelin would trust him and his grip.

He encloses his hand around the other mans hand and wrist and part of forearm...and shakes but does not squeeze or act threatening.

"Volken of House Mons and yeah...I'm Mandalorian...... Robbin' one wouldn't do me much good. Our armor is a personal thing. Meaning I"d need a Mandalorian my size and I've never met a Dowutin or Wampa Mandalorian b'fore...."

His sharkish grin remains as he rests his hand back on the table, "So you got yourself an authentic Mandalorian on the pay roll. I'll try and make it interesting for ya..."

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"All the better." Kalregar answers, not looking one bit intimidated by the size of the hand, although he doesn't linger in the grip. "Your people are known for their combat prowess, and I am looking forward to watching you in action, I'll admit. I'm sure you won't disappoint."

Volken Mons has posed:
"I'll try not t'disappoint.." rumbles Volken, sounding amused and shrugging lightly as he leans back again. The lack of intimidation is noted. Another check mark in the column of being impressed although Volken wasn't exactly trying to intimidate beyond the nuances of simply being himself. Even the most staunch fighter can shrink back at the sight of him but Baelin's confidence is quite noted and the giant seems to appreciate that.

"Just let me know when you're ready." he adds before wrapping his hand around the drink that was brought by the droid.

Baelin Kalregar has posed:
"Meet me at the spaceport tomorrow morning. My ship's docked at 12A. I'll have your payment ready for you, and make sure you're packed for a several days' worth." Kalregar tells him. "Any questions, at the moment?"

Volken Mons has posed:
"A few days?"

That was a bit of a surprise revelation but it only throws Volken off briefly as he considers the full potential scope here. "Sounds good.."

He confirms that and seems comfortable with the potential commitment and he lifts his drink in acknowledgement. He lens back to begin taking a drink and for now it seems the deal is set.
