Rumor has it she used to work with a Mercenary band prior to becoming a reporter.
Even less reliable rumors say she's also working for the RDC.

She grew up on the edge of Hutt Space, and joined a Mercenary Outfit known as Lost Shield. They had the tag line of "Being a Shield for those Lost in these times." She thought it was hokey kriff, but whatever. It got her off the planet, and into a job where she felt like she might be able to help people. Her first five years had her working security jobs and even six months doing "local enforcement of well established businesses in close proximity to one another with high traffic of civilian and criminal elements." A couple years later, now 27, she came back into the mainstream with her Journalism - at least publicly that was what happened - to once more try and assist far flung worlds.

A Reporter who's well known in some circles for her work showing the devastation of Pirates amongst the Expansion region. Her work has been picked up a few times over the years by even mainstream media. Her coverage of an attack by the Hutt worlds, which the Hutts vehemently denied as being their doing, led to a settlement by one of the Hutt lords to stymie a sanction being placed on the region as a whole. While Syralana wasn't credited for the Holo directly, the outlet that bought her story was.
Someone researching her across the Holonet can find articles over the last 3 years - though more scant in the last two - authored by her all pertaining to attacks. A really dedicated search, might even turn up a holo of a young woman who looks very similar in light armor or combat fatigues as part of a Mercenary outfit known as "Lost Shield." While Syralana has been active as a Journalist, her rather niche work means that she's hardly a common name to drop, though people who have an interest in those sort of articles have probably seen her name now and again.
