Quarantine
Date of Scene: 30 December 2024
Location:
Synopsis: Cayde gets placed in quarantine on the Legacy II with Malgabar.
Cast of Characters: 159, Navi, Cayde Alexis, Syralana

Athena (159) has posed:
Not long after everyone has gotten settled in, the Legacy II leaps to hyperspace, beginning the weeks long journey towards Tenoo in the Outer Rim.

It likely won't take long for the passengers aboard the massive passenger freighter to start to get a bit restless waiting for the ship's sleep cycle to kick in. Consequently, the lounge and the hallways become a bit crowded, as many of the passengers roam the halls, looking for something interesting to do.

Furthermore, naturally, these circumstances are prime for a certain four teenaged Chadra Fans to sneak out of their quarters and into the reading area aboard the vessel, balancing on top of one another to climb over a cordoned off area...

Navi has posed:
Navi enters the reading area just in time to witness the Chadra Fans up to no good. She instantly goes into stealth mode, creeping closer to see just what they're doing.

"Isn't that area off limits?" she asks in what might be a low stage whisper, as she realizes their balancing act isn't just for fun.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde spent a lot of his time studying in his room or practicing in the recreational areas, but like the others he also eventually finds himself restless. Back home on Coruscant he would just sneak out to the Lower City at night whenever this happened, but that wasn't an option here. Even worse, he wasn't used to being in such close proximity to so many people all the time, with nowhwere to go to retreat away from them all.

Over the course of the next 48 or so hours, people might start to notice less and less of Cayde hanging around...

Athena (159) has posed:
"Yes, actually," a familiar voice says from behind Navi.

The Chadra Fans, upon seeing Navi and whoever's behind her, yelp loudly and tumble to the floor. "Aw!!" Peeka grumbles. "Navi, you busted us. You're such a spoilsport..." she says glumly.

If Navi turns around, she'll see it's Master Yutelli. The elderly Mirialan woman laughs at the younglings, amused. "Come now, don't be like that. I can show you all some more interesting books. Ones that that Jedi study -- I brought them along as reading for myself and Master Windu, as well as Cayde and Anne if they decide they want to look at them as well. Would you all like to see them?"

The Chadra Fans seem excited by the notion, and follow Oona. "Come on, Navi!" Peeka says.

Navi has posed:
Navi jumps almost as much as the Chadra Fans. "Sorry, Peeka. Hadn't meant to make you all fall like that," she says, with some contrition. "Are you all okay?" In her experience, the Chadra Fan kids have a tendency to bounce back from falls of any sort, even on rock or deck plates, so they're likely unharmed. She hopes.

"Hello, Master Yutelli," she adds to the elderly Mirialan, moving to follow her as the Fan Four hasten after her. Given Oona's conversation and mentions of Master Windu, she has a momentary thought that Oona might be setting a man-trap for the Jedi Healer... but they're Jedi! That idea is just silly...

Isn't it?

Cayde Alexis has posed:
As they are headed off to find these books Oona is talking about, those connected to the Force will feel a disturbance nearby. It has to be on this ship...and it is coming from the living quarters near where the Jedi are staying together.

Athena (159) has posed:
Oona smiles and glances back at Navi as they head to a small reading nook in the back. "Is something troubling you Navi?" The elderly woman says.

"Of course she's 'troubled'," Peeka suddenly interjects. "She probably heard the rumors about how Tenoo is pirate infested. And!! Not just the regular kind either. The ones with freaky masks. The same ones that stole stuff from the Temple!"

Oona senses the disturbance in the Force and reaches out to Cayde. <Is everything alright, Cayde?>

Navi has posed:
"Not really, Master. I'm fine," Navi replies softly. "I just-..."

Peeka beats her to the punch in the same breath as she contradicts the blonde Sephi's answer, and Navi blinks and pales slightly at the news that masked pirates might be on Tenoo. "Wait a minute... Peeka, how do you know something like that? Nothing about such things came up in any of the briefings," she asks. Knowing Peeka and her siblings, they've probably been listening at doors or overhearing conversations again.

Not that she's about to discount news this dire. The Fan Four have saved her neck with such information several times already, even if they have also gotten her into trouble.

The disturbance in the Force draws a glance in the general direction of the Jedi quarters. "Master? Did you feel that, too?" she asks.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
When Oona reaches out toward him, she will feel a sudden sharp pain, like an alarm that is supposed to be much too high pitched for comfort...

Athena (159) has posed:
"I have bigger ears than you," Peeka says vaguely. "Of course I hear more things than you."

"Mmhmm, I did. I think Cayde's having a bit of trouble. I'm going to go check on him, will you keep an eye on these rascals for a bit?" She gets up. "And you all can have a look at my books if you like in the meantime." She opens her satchel, revealing several holobooks.

Navi has posed:
"Cayde? Maybe we'd better come with you. Cayde can be a handful when he's in trouble," Navi replies worriedly. "And yes, Peeka, I know you have bigger ears than me," she adds, scritching Peeka's nearest ear. "But I'm wondering /who/ you heard that from. I'm hoping it's nothing, but if it isn't, we're going to need someone to talk to or investigate."

Athena (159) has posed:
"What if I told you it was your other Not Boyfriend?" Peeka says with a smirk. "The one who covers his face all the time and sent you to jail." Her brothers are highly amused and start laughing as they follow Navi, dragging Oona's satchel behind them. They open the holobooks and start poring over them as they walk.

Oona laughs. "Navi? Is there any truth to what they're saying? Seems you've quite a handful of admirers."

Oona reaches out with the Force again, seeking to locate Cayde. She tries again to talk to him. <Cayde...>

Cayde Alexis has posed:
If Navi tries the same thing as Oona in her attempts to connect to the padawan, she'll find the same result. A sharp and sudden pain that will tempt her to recoil instantly, as she had touched something too hot.

However, they'll be able to tell that he is somewhere in the living quarters near where the Jedi had been assigned.

Navi has posed:
"I seem to be more popular than I ever expected to be," Navi observes, blushing. "And yes, there is some truth to it. He has a connection to me through the Force... a direct connection. I have no idea how it was formed, but it's there. We had a very rough first meeting, but he's since helped me recover the remains of my late Master's lightsaber, at great personal risk to himself. But he's not my boyfriend. Even if Peeka doesn't believe me on that."

She follows Oona's example and stretches out with the Force telepathically. <Cayde, are you-...>

A sudden, sharp pain comes through the connection, and it takes all her willpower not to lose the connection. "I can't reach him, Master... all I can tell is that he's somewhere in the Jedi quarters. We'd better find him quick!"

Athena (159) has posed:
"Ah-h-h, I see," Oona says with a quiet laugh. "Perhaps you two are a dyad. Soulmates in the Force, fated to have your destinies intertwined."

"We'll find him," Oona says calmly. "Wait here," She tells the Fan Four, directing them to the lounge room. "And try not to ruin my holobooks."

Then she goes to find Cayde in the Jedi quarters, hoping Navi will follow

Navi has posed:
Navi follows. "Stay here, okay? I don't know what's happened to Cayde, but it might be very dangerous to be around it unless you're skilled in the Force," she explains as best she can. If we don't come back in an hour, or you don't hear from us in an hour, go get help." With that, she hurries after Oona.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
It won't take them long, at least. And it's a good thing they told the Chadra Fan children to stay behind, as they will also likely notice that the other colonists have also steered clear of the area as there is no one else around.

They'll find him in one of the refreshers near his and Ann's suite, doubled over the vactube and not looking well at all. But when they approach, he stands up and staightens out his robes, as if trying to pretend nothing was wrong.

Athena (159) has posed:
"Oh dear," Oona says softly when she sees Cayde doubled over the vactube. "Get him some water," she says to Navi. "Ill go get Windu and see if I can find his master." She then gets up and hurriedly goes out.

Navi has posed:
"Cayde!" Navi cries, seeing the Padawan in that pained-looking position. "I'll stay with him, Master," she adds over her shoulder as Master Yutelli departs in haste.

"What happened?" she asks, hesitantly moving closer to assist him. "I tried to contact you and it felt like something tried to drive a durasteel rod through my head!"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
[Nothing...nothing] Cayde signs, shaking his head. He doesn't want her to worry. But it looks like he hasn't even slept since boarding this ship. It seems...that he is simply not accustomed to being around this many people in such cramped quarters for this long. Not that the Legacy II is actually -that- cramped, but surely they are packed in more densely than back home.

Plus, he seems to also be ill with something.

Navi has posed:
"That didn't /look/ like nothing. And it sure didn't feel like it," Navi retorts softly. "You look like you might be coming down with something, and there's no way a disturbance like that is normal. Are you sure you don't want to talk about this?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods, but then he shakes his head. Navi will feel a lot of confusing emotions rolling off of him...he just isn't used to this, but doesn't know how to explain that to anyone. However, he also doesn't exactly want to show them how he feels, as it isn't pleasant. In fact, it's quite painful.

Navi has posed:
Navi risks opening herself to Cayde's mind once again via telepathy. "Okay, that explains that. Kind of," she observes softly. "Obviously we're going to need to find out how to deal with this. Clearly you can't go through this for weeks in hyperspace."

"There are techniques to control pain via the Force, and potentially meditation techniques or trance techniques that may be of help," she adds. "Do you know any such techniques? Your Master and Masters Windu and Yutelli may be able to teach you, too."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
[I have tried...] Cayde answers, nodding at the question of whether he knows such techniques. He sinks down to the floor again, curling up against the wall with his knees up against his chest.

Navi has posed:
Navi sighs softly, kneeling beside Cayde and hugging him, taking care with the ends of her robe. "I'm sorry you're going through this," she says softly.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde accepts the embrace, and even slumps forward against her a bit. The contact strengthens their connection, and she'll begin to feel that headache edging in again.

Navi has posed:
Navi tries to open herself to the Force just a bit more, adjusting its flow between herself and Cayde, and within herself, especially, to help control the pain bleeding over from Cayde. It's working, but she can tell it won't work for very long.

"I hope they hurry," she murmurs, hugging Cayde just slightly tighter.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
The pain does begin to abate almost just as quickly as it began. As she embraces him more tightly, she can feel the cold sweat on his skin.

But Cayde suddenly pulls away from her and gets up, vomiting into the vactube. Once finished, he steps away again and gives her an apologetic look. [Sorry] he signs.

Athena (159) has posed:
Just then, Oona arrives with the doctor in tow. "Anne and Master Windu are busy with another... emergency," she says calmly. "But Dr. Cassias should be able to help."

The doctor kneels, examining Cayde and offering the young Padawan a hand. "Can you walk?" he asks softly.

Navi has posed:
Navi squeaks softly in surprise as Cayde suddenly pulls away, coming to her feet and backing up a pace quickly enough that she almost loses her balance. "Oh, /frell/..." she murmurs.

She lifts her hands placatingly and shakes her head as he apologizes. "No apology needed. You can't help being sick, Cayde."

As the doctor and Master Yutelli arrive, she steps back out of their way. "I think Cayde is coming down with a cold. That, and being in such close proximity with so many people isn't doing his telepathy any favors. Is there any way we could isolate him, to keep the psychic shock down?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods when asked if he can walk. Although he seems a bit apprehensive, because he doesn't really want to go back into the more crowded areas of the ship...

    [...walk to where] he asks.

Athena (159) has posed:
"The quarantine chamber," the doctor says. "Usually reserved for patients with extremely infectious diseases, but it will work for our intents and purposes." He stands, and motions for the young Padawan to follow him.

Navi has posed:
"Let's hope it's enough," Navi adds. "Has it ever been rated regarding the Force?" She watches Dr. Cassias with some small degree of wariness; she still doesn't fully trust him, and since he tried to guilt her over watching over Cayde, she doesn't much like him, either. But she does stay close enough to assist as needed or wanted.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods, although the mention of the fact it's a quarantine chamber seems to cause his spirits to sink even lower. Great...he knew something like this was going to happen...and what if he had to be stuck in there for the entire trip? And maybe even longer...

But he follows the doctor anyway, looking discouraged.

Athena (159) has posed:
The doctor doesnt look at Navi but his brow furrows. "No," he says, "of course not."

He then pats Cayde on the shoulder reassuringly as they head to the lift.

Navi has posed:
"His telepathy is opening him up to the thoughts of everyone on the ship, and he can't block it all out. There's too many people too close to him for that. So he's suffering from psychic shock, which is subjecting him to an awful lot of pain," Navi continues, struggling not to raise her voice. The doctor's reaction to her wasn't lost on her.

"So I guess we're going to find out the hard way whether the chamber is sealed up enough to stop this psychic overload. The illness is almost an afterthought compared to that, but I'm sure it's having an effect on his ability to block out all those thoughts."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
The reassuring pat seems to help a little, although he still drags his feet somewhat, following Soren into the elevator. He glances over at Navi, taking note of the edge in her tone toward the doctor. What was the saying?

<Cut him slack...he's trying> he tries projecting to her privately.

Athena (159) has posed:
The doctor doesn't respond to Navi. Instead, he keeps walking to the lift. The doors opens as soon as he presses the button and gestures for them to go inside before him.

"You won't be alone," he says to Cayde. "There's another female patient there I've been asked to treat. I hope you don't mind. I'll have Tubi arrange for you to have separate private sleeping and resting areas."

Navi has posed:
<Yes, I know he's trying... I know he's /very, very/ trying,> Navi replies, somewhat irritably. <I'll do my best to try to get along with him, but I don't think you realize just how tall of an order that actually is.>

"Is it possible for him to have visitors at all?" she asks as they enter the lift.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
<But why...?> Yes, she's right, he doesn't quite understand what she finds so detestable about the doctor. Well...he was a complicated man.

He sighs and enters the elevator as Soren motions them inside, wondering who this other patient is.

Athena (159) has posed:
They ascend several floors, and finally arrive in a lonely hallway that ends in large pair of double doors with two security cameras mounted atop it.

The doctor pauses, and presses the doorbell twice emphatically.

"It's me," he says, "I have visitors, and probably another roommate. May I come in?"

There's a pause, and then a familiar young female voice says through the intercom on the locking mechanism says. "Yes, of course."

The doctor then waves his passkey in front of the device, and the doors slide open.

Navi and Cayde might be rather shocked to see that Mal is in there, and she's completely in the nude. She's all wet, and is clasping a towel in both her hands but the way she's holding it hardly obscures her blatant nakedness.

Navi has posed:
"Oh, gods... Mal! What's happened to you?" Navi asks, instantly concerned. Also instantly averting her eyes, since the poor girl's stark naked and soaking wet. Just what is going on here, she wonders.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde stares at her naked body for half a second, his face instantly flushing. Why would she agree to them entering if she was naked?? He quickly turns away as well, averting his gaze.

Athena (159) has posed:
"Oh, nothing," Mal says, "although I suppose the doctor is helping me with my ...my memory."

the doctor sighs. "Mal, what did I tell you earlier? Most people won't tolerate your... spontaneous nudity. Now, Cayde will have to be in here as well, and I expect you to respect his boundaries. Can you do that for me?"

Mal gives them a meek look. "Oh,. yes. Alright..."

Navi has posed:
Navi keeps working on not looking at Mal, which ends up with her looking at Cayde, for the most part. So she doesn't miss /him/ working on not looking at Mal, too. "Were you using the hydroshower? Is that why you're dripping wet?" she asks.

"The doctor's right about the nudity, too. Why exactly are you naked, anyway? It makes perfect sense if you were using the hydroshower, but... well, the term spontaneous nudity kind of suggests there's more going on," she continues gently. "Want to talk about it?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde puts a hand on the side of his face toward Mal, his face burning and still very red. Is he going to have to put up with this for the entire trip...

Athena (159) has posed:
"Oh, yes," she says. "I forgot my clothes in the bedroom..." she says nonchalantly. She beams upon seeing Cayde. "You.. you seem so familiar..." she says. She then reaches out into the Force to try to connect with the young padawan telepathically.

The doctor sighs. "Please go get dressed..."

With a shrug, the girl heads into the bedroom area of the quarantine chambers. She doesn't close the door, but the doctor closes it for her. "Her memory loss isn't just short term," he says, "Many of her long term memories were erased as well, along with many of the normal social proprieties everyone her age would have," he says. "Essentially, her ability to interact socially is that of a child's. And being on this vessel with over two thousand strangers has exacerbated her anxiety and loss of ability interact normally with other people."

Navi has posed:
"I see. Cayde and I have met Mal and her sister before, back on Jedha, as has Master Windu. She was similarly impaired at the time, but I'm not sure if she was this bad," Navi observes. She looks after Mal, mostly at the closed door, and then at Cayde.

"Are either of them allowed to have visitors?" she asks after a moment. She'd asked before, but hadn't gotten any answer. Maybe the doctor had been too busy...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Once Mal has gone into the bedroom and the doctor has shut the door, Cayde finally starts to calm down to normal color. He glances around the room nervously...there's another bedroom in here, right?

Athena (159) has posed:
"...yes," he says to Navi, "but you'll need me in order to access the room. And I would request for Mal's sake that you only visit during certain times at regular intervals. She needs pattern in her life to stabilize her state of mind," he says.

He turns to Cayde. "I'll have Tubi come in here and arrange some separate sleeping arrangements for you. Unfortunately there's only one refreshers in here and you'll have to share it with her."

"You may find this arrangement unsavory, but I honestly think it will be best for you and her. She needs to learn to socialize with someone who isn't me. And you need to be away from the rest of the passengers, so I believe it can work out."

Cayde may notice that yes, the psychic noise in here is vastly diminished.

Navi has posed:
"I could stay with them," Navi offers softly, and not without some regret. "Unless that would cause more trouble than it would cure. But Cayde and Mal don't always get along, and a third person to mediate between them when necessary could make the whole thing smoother for everyone."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
What did he mean, arrange for them? Well...Cayde supposes he could just sleep out here if she's sleeping in the adjoining room. He sits down on one of the sofas, suddenly feeling rather tired.

Athena (159) has posed:
"I don't recommend that," the doctor says, sending a text transmission to his modified architect droid, Tubi. "This room was designed for singular habitation and while two people might not be all that bad, three would definitely be too crowded. And that will introduce additional stress for both Cayde and Mal."

The door to the bedroom area then suddenly opens, and Mal exits. She's wearing a furry robe now, thank goodness. Giggling, she takes a few flowers from her pocket and places one behind Navi's ear, one in the doctor's shirt pocket, and then tucks the third into Cayde's padawan braid before coming to sit down next to him on the couch.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Except the braid is too thin and doesn't hold the flower, so it falls to the floor. Cayde turns to her and tries to reach into her mind again...why can't she ever remember anything?

Navi has posed:
"All right, then. I'll try to visit every day at regualr intervals," Navi replies, both mildly disappointed and mildly relieved. She wants to help, but being shut up in a place like this is a scary prospect for anyone, even a Jedi. "I just hope they can get along okay."

Athena (159) has posed:
Mal pouts when the flower falls to the floor. Cayde will discover that the girl doesn't even know. She's had so many of her memories erased in a very tragic event that Cayde won't be able to glean much details about. But it's why she has such bad short term memory loss.

But his concentration will be interrupted when she picks the flower up, and leans towards the young padawan, getting into his personal space as she tries to pry his mouth open and put the stem of the flower in between his teeth.

"Thank you," the doctor says without emotion. "And leave the worrying to me," he says, "after all, it's what doctors do best," he says with a sigh.

When he sees Mal violating Cayde's personal space, he warns the girl, "Mal..."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde frowns...well of course she isn't consciously aware of it. He didn't expect her to be. But there had to be something...in her subconscious mind. It seems a tragic event had driven her insane to a degree. But maybe if he digs a bit deeper...

When she tries to put the flower in his mouth, he doesn't move or open it at all, his gaze blank and vacant.

Navi has posed:
"Please don't do that, Mal. Cayde is not a Salusian bullfighter, or one of that world's flamenco dancers, either," Navi chides the girl gently.

Athena (159) has posed:
The young padawan will find himself grasping at straws, though. The girl just remembers so very little of who she had been before the tragic event. The memories are simply just not there, not even in her subconscious. Like they'd been crowded out, somehow. It had been her fault, though, and that's all she knows.

"Sorry!" she says, dropping the flower onto the couch and then climbing into Cayde's lap and wrapping her arms around him. "He's ... inside of me," she says, tugging on Cayde's braid, "I can feel it. I like it~"

The doctor sighs. "Don't ... don't say that. Remember what I said the other day about using more words, and different ones than what you usually use?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
The frown grows deeper, his brows crashing together as he tries to push deeper until sweat begins to roll down his face. Mal might be able to tell that his body feels usually hot. And true enough, if there is any monitoring equipment in the room, Soren might get a notification that Cayde's body temperature is in the fever range.

Navi has posed:
"That would be super adorable if she hadn't said that," Navi murmurs, blushing a little. "He must be using his telepathy. Mal has a different ability than telepathy through the Force. I think it's called psychometry. She can touch things and get impressions of past events about them. Problem is, her gift is so strong that she can't touch much of anything unfamiliar without being overwhelmed by it. Apparently she used to get lost on Jedha, 'cause she'd touch things and be so overwhelmed by them that she'd forget where she was going and what she was doing. Poor thing."

Athena (159) has posed:
Mal nods at the doctor, looking apologetic.

The doctor sighs, suddenly sounding a bit irascible. "Her primary issue is her memory loss, along with severe anxiety and unhealthy attachment styles," he says, "once she can receive therapy for the issues I just mentioned, everything else will fall into place."

"I think he's sick," Mal says, sounding anxious while gently wiping Cayde's forehead. The doctor sighs, and gets up, gently peeling Mal off of Cayde. "He's dehydrated," he says, getting up and fetching a glass of water from the small kitchenette. He turns on the air conditioning while he's at it.

Mal looks upset. "It's cold!" she complains, tears starting in her eyes. "Is he going to be okay? Did I hurt him??"

Meanwhile, on the lower levels of the Legacy II, a modified architect droid is plowing along, herding a couple of hovercarts towards the lift. He seems to be in a mood, and will hardly notice when some of the bedsheets piled on one of the carts falls off and onto the feet of a certain tall Echani woman!

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde finally seems to snap out of it and gets up, patting her on the shoulder to assure her that she hadn't hurt him. Then he starts to make his way out. He'd better fetch the rest of his things and bring them here, since it seems he'll be staying in here for a while.

Syralana has posed:
An Echani woman that's on a mission! Well, not really, every since become 'Chief Comms Officer' on board this expedition, she's been... bored. Normally her career has her running hither-and-yon or at least toward the latest blaster shots. Now? Now she's back to 'hurry up and wait'. So as she stares down at the bedsheets, holding her datapad in the other hand, she kicks the sheets back toward the hovercart with a frown.

"I didn't recall Chief Comms Officer being Chief Beds Officer too." She squints at the droid and sighs. Tapping a few more-- hold up, that name looks familiar.

"Hey! Droid-dude. Archi-droid! Whatever! Where's the med bay? I'm looking for Doctor... Doctor...." Sithspit, she lost what page she was on of the roster.

Navi has posed:
Navi gently hugs Mal, if the girl will allow her to. "You didn't hurt him, sweetie," she says soothingly. "Cayde was already sick. And I'm sure the good doctor will do everything he can to make him well again."

She ponders resortng to telepathy to soothe the girl, since it had seemed to work for Cayde, but that might cause as much trouble as it could potentially cure.

Athena (159) has posed:
the doctor frowns and reaches over to grab Cayde by the arm. "Where are you going? This chamber is quarantined for a reason," he says. "Sit down and drink this, please," he says, handing the young padawan the glass of water he'd just fetched.

Mal gazes up at Navi, eyes wide and incredulous. "You're so pretty," she says, brushing her bangs playfully.

The droid scowls when she kicks the sheets. "-Excuse- me!" he says grumpily. "Those were -clean-!" He grumbles and snatches them up hastily and puts them back on the hovercart. The droid's demeanor sours even more when she starts calling him some droid specific slurs. "That's CCL-2B to you, and his -name- is Doctor Soren Cassias. He's not in the medbay, he's on the upper levels in the quarantine chambers," he harrumphs. "You're -welcome-..." And he continues on his way towards the lift.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde sighs a long sigh. Right...quarantine. [Just to fetch my things] he signs, when Soren asks him where he's going. But he accepts the glass and sits down obediently, starting to drink the water.

Syralana has posed:
Syralana stares back at the droid, just stares, "They were clean /before/ they fell on my feet! You--" Squint, and she frowns for a second, sighing heavily, "Well, I might be welcome, but I'm not /thanking/ you for that." She sniffs, another squint, "The /nerve/ of some droids. I swear they don't wipe them nearly enough." She turns and head toward the lift as she keeps tapping away on her datapad. There it was! Doctor Soren Cassias.

She knows she's heard that name somewhere...

A few more taps and there it was.

"Well you didn't give me this!" She says as she turns back to the droid, waving the datapad from a few more steps down the hall before she turns back and enters the lift. If the droid was heading for the same one, she was tapping that close button like it was going out of style! CCL-2B was NOT getting on her lift if her button mashing abilities had anything to say about it.

Navi has posed:
Navi smiles faintly at Mal's compliment, lightly kissing the girl's cheek. "And you're very sweet to say so," she says warmly. "Cayde, I can bring your stuff up for you. I have a porter droid available to me, so it's no trouble. Just tell me your room number."

Athena (159) has posed:
"Thank you," the doctor says to Navi, "That would be preferred." He then beckons Cayde over. "I'm going to take your temperature and test your hydration level," he says to the young padawan.

Mal clings to Navi. "I don't remember you. Do you remember me?"

Unfortunately, the droid -is- heading for the same lift. When he sees her pressing the close button, his mechanical brows crash together with a TINK! "And just who do you think you are?!" he cries angrily. "You'll wait for me or--!"

He rushes into the lift, just barely managing to slip inside at the last second. But shoving two hovercarts into one lift with two people makes for a crowded space and some of the bedding falls off and gets caught in the door as it closes. As the lift ascends, the bedding rips and then there's a really terrible crunching sound. The lift shudders, but still continues upward.

"You've broken the damn thing!" the droid accuses Syralana. She might be inclined to reply, but they've already arrived at the specified level of the Legacy II.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
<Thank you> Cayde projects over at Navi when she offers to bring his stuff over for him.

He nods and approaches when Soren tells him he needs a hydration test.

Syralana has posed:
"It was your sheets!" Syralana says as she backs out of the lift. "I'm watching you!" She splits her attention between the datapad and the droid, her other hand pointing at her eyes and then swiveling to point at the droid. Eyes. Droid. Forehead. Droid. Eyes. Droid! I mean, she still had things to read about this Doctor before she found him. After all, it was a bit odd that he was the one on this particularly loud, well politically loud, expedition out to the colony.

     Curious.

OH WAIT! "I'll--" But the door has already closed and she instead scowls at the lift doors before turning fully and heading down the hallway toward the Quarantine chambers in search of Doctor Soren Cassias.

Navi has posed:
"I do remember you. I'm Navi. And you're Mal," Navi replies to the troubled girl, hugging her just a bit tighter. "We met on Jedha. You have a very... /brave/ big sister," she adds. She'd almost said 'nice', but remembered almost too late that she couldn't in all fairness call her that. At least she cared very deeply about her little sister.

Athena (159) has posed:
The doctor presses a thermometer to Cayde's forehead, and takes out a blood drawing kit from inside his jacket. "Sit down please," he asks the young padawan.

"Oh don't play stupid with me! You were the one trying to close the lift doors on me!" he retorts. As Syralana exits the lift, the droid narrows his eyes at her as she exits the lift. Then he hurries after her, making sure that the hovercarts don't get caught in the door this time!

Syralana will find herself in front of a pair of great double doors with a keycard swipe and an intercom. Looks like she'd be able to speak to whoever was inside using it.

"I remember my name," Mal says softly. "But I don't remember a Navi. You just look so familiar. And I remember my sister." She starts to look emotional. "She wanted the doctor to help me because I'm a 'pain in the ass'."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods and cooperates. The thermometer reading immediately shoots up, indicating that he's actually running a moderate fever. He probably shouldn't have been up and about so much the past 24 hours. It's likely that whatever he'd had when Soren had conducted the exam hadn't fully gone away.

Syralana has posed:
Syralana presses the button next to the door, "Uhhh. Doctor... Soren Cass-us. Cassias? Are you there by chance?" She lets go of the button for the intercom. Of course her eyes shoot back toward the lift. Could that droid have lied to her? If it did, she would hunt it down. That droid and all its brethren of laundry droids or-- whatever it was. They would give up that one that schemed to send her on a wild nerf chase!

Navi has posed:
"She didn't mean that, Mal... she loves you, and she's doing the best she can to help you. But I'd bet she's tried everything she knows, it hasn't worked, and she's frustrated. That's why she went to Dr. Cassias for help," Navi says gently, kissing Mal's forehead. "I know she wants what's best for you. If I were her, I would, too."

"It's okay to be upset with her for saying such a mean thing. But she didn't mean it. She loves you. She always will."

Athena (159) has posed:
This doesn't surprise the doctor at all. "Lie down please. You've got a bad fever," he tells the young padawan. Then he starts opening the blood drawing kit so he can test his hydration level, but that's when he hears his name being called over the intercom.

"...just give me a few minutes, will you?" he says calmly into his commlink (which is connected to the intercom), although his brows are knitted together in slight frustration.

Mal doesn't respond, instead, she sits down on the couch and hugs her knees, looking forlorn. "Well then I don't want her to love me," she says sullenly. But then she hears that someone's at the door, and rushes to the holodisplays that show who's outside. "...who is that?!"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde frowns. But...it couldn't be that bad, could it? He sighs and lies down anyway, holding his arm ready for the doctor to take the blood draw yet again.

Syralana has posed:
...and then she would make sure to come after the other droids who were hiding him! They work in packs, she knows it, she's seen it, but she never had enough proof to write about it. But one day she would-- Oh!

"Uh, Yeah, sure thing. I just wanted to ask you about some of the interesting points in your career leading up to joining this particular expedition to -- well -- it might as well be parts unknown." She's tapping away on her datapad, already getting ready to compose or record, depending on how things go.

Navi has posed:
Navi bites her lip at Mal's sullen words. She starts to move to sit down next to the sulking girl, but suddenly Mal is across the room and studying the holodisplay of a new arrival. "Haven't I seen her on the holovision?" she asks the room softly. "I know I've seen her before now, and not on the holos. I wonder what she wants?" She does pat Mal's shoulder, hoping to soothe her more.

Athena (159) has posed:
The doctor hesitates drawing blood on Cayde when Syralana starts asking some rather... invasive questions.

"If you're wondering about the falsified toxicology report I made for Heydan Seegil, well I recommend reading the hologossip columns released last month."

The droid who had been antagonizing Syralana prior marches over to the keycard swipe, and pushing the Echani woman aside grumpily, pulls out his own keycard and swipes himself in. The doors slide open, permitting Syralana inside, as the droid pushes the hovercarts with the rumpled bedding into the quarantine chamber.

"You know her?!" she asks Navi. Then she looks over at Cayde. <Read her mind! The doctor said I shouldn't. But he didn't tell you not to...>

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Read her mind? But...he doesn't really have a good reason to. Cayde has been trying to avoid getting tangled in others' thoughts if he can, unless he has a good reason to. Sometimes, he can't help it, but...

He shakes his head. <No...I should be careful>

Navi has posed:
"She's Comms Officer for the colony, and a reporter. At least, she talks like a reporter," Navi replies to Mal, reclaiming a seat on the end of the couch. "Kind of brusque, but a nice person, deep down." At least, she hopes so...

Maybe she should talk to the droid about that one...

Syralana has posed:
"No, I wasn't going to specifically-" Beat.

She turns and stares at the Droid. Then lifts her hand. Points at her own eyes, then the droid. Rinse and repeat as she backs into the room once more. Though this time, she's not pressing the 'door close' button.

"No. I wasn't going to ask you about that specifically, though it might come up." She starts to turn, and looks back at the others, "Chief Comms Officer." She corrects Navi before looking back to the Doctor. A little flicker at the corner of her mouth into a smile. The Echani tilts her head, "I was going to -- wait, are you busy? This can wait, Doctor. I don't want to distract you."

Athena (159) has posed:
Mal pouts when Cayde refuses her request, but doesn't insist on it.

The droid scowls at Syralana, but doesn't reply when she eyes him.

"I'm going to assume that isn't your actual name," The doctor says. He seems thoroughly unimpressed, though his expression is borderline unreadable.

The young Dathomirian girl suddenly darts from in front of the holodisplay station over to Syralana. "Can we read your mind?" she asks very frankly and suddenly.

There's a fraction of a pause, and for a moment Syralana will be able to observe a spark of amusement in the doctor's eyes. He thought something was funny. "No, actually. What did you want to ask me about, exactly?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde stares at Mal as she just comes out and asks that question. No wonder Gael tended to get impatient with her. He shakes his head and looks away. Actually, the doctor really was busy. But he was just trying to be polite, wasn't he?

Syralana has posed:
Syralana blinks, then looks at the Dathomirian girl. She looks at her and completely deadpan says, "Can you read my mind? Oh no! If you do that! You'll learn the secrets! Don't tell the droids!" Her eyes are wide as she says this and then grins, giving a little shrug, "If you wanna try, go for it. Who know what might happen."

Looking up toward the Doctor, then Cayde, then Navi, then the Doctor she mutters, "Huh..." Then back to her Datapad for a moment, and back to the Doctor, "Right, so -- I was wondering exactly what was the onus to take this trip? I'm sure that it wasn't anything to do with the previous legal issues, or at least, I hope it wasn't. Was it Doctor? And why the Tenoo Initiative of all things?" She looks like she dove straight into Reporter mode -- Chief Comms Officer be damned!

Athena (159) has posed:
Mal looks over at Cayde excitedly. <She said we could! Are you going to do it?>

The doctor shrugs. "Part of my sentence for releasing the falsified toxicology report was to serve at least forty two hundred community service hours. And then the Chancellor's office reached out to me personally and said they'd arranged for my community service to be performed in the Outer Rim as part of a Republic colonization effort." He starts the blood draw on Cayde. "Again, I'm sure at least one or two of your colleagues would have mentioned this while gathering around the moisture vaporator. No need to inconvenience yourself by seeking me out personally."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde tries not to roll his eyes. <No...she doesn't believe you> Which was even more reason not to do it unless he had a very good reason. She's a stranger, and just as she'd said--there was no telling what might happen...

Syralana has posed:
Further tapping on the side of her datapad and she tilts her head, as she seems to consider it. "While it was mentioned, that doesn't entirely explain why you agreed." She gives a little furrow of her brow, "Push comes to shove, while they can arrange for it to be performed, that doesn't mean they can force you to do it. There is usually some form of legal application to back out, considering the undue hardship placed on you." She tucks the datapad away and gives a little smile to the Dathomirian before back to the Doctor.

"So tell me why /you/ wanted to go."

Athena (159) has posed:
The young Dathomirian girl pouts again, but at least this time she folds on her desire to egg Cayde into reaching into Syralana's mind. She flops onto the couch. "You didn't even say your name!" she points out.

The doctor's expression becomes even more unreadable. "When the Chancellor's office reaches out to you asking that you perform your community service hours as part of an initiative that Rie himself was primarily responsible for launching, you don't refuse," he replies vaguely.

He finishes the blood draw and puts the vial into a sealed container and throws away the gloves he'd been using.

He turns to Cayde. "Don't over exert yourself for the next forty eight hours," he says, "and stay hydrated. Tubi will see to your habitation arrangements. I'll check on you two tomorrow."

"Now," he says to Syralana. "If you don't mind, several families have reported their younglings as having been gravely affected by motion sickness, so I'm going to go down to Level 3 to see if I can prescribe them some medication." He then turns on his heel and goes to exit the quarantine chambers.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Once the doctor is finished, Cayde gets up and slides off the bed. 'Ovexert' hadn't been defined, so there's that. He shoots a somewhat sharp look over Mal's way when she rather rudely pressures the reporter to tell them her name, then looks back to the Echani woman.

[Sorry about them...] he signs, then gestures vaguely toward Soren and Mal. [Cayde Alexis] he signs, spelling out each letter of his name to her before bowing in polite greeting.

Syralana has posed:
A bit of a laugh and she does her best to read what Cayde is saying, her head nodding a bit slowly before she looks back to the Dathomirian girl. "Oh, I'm Syralana. The Head Comms Officer for the initiative... for what that's worth." She gives a furrow, her mouth pulling off to the side, "I think I said that already." But either way, she turns her gaze back toward the Doctor and gives a sigh, "So... You'd rather not /say/ why you wanted to go, Doctor?"

Athena (159) has posed:
Mal looks visibly upset when Cayde gives her a sharp look. But when Syralana finally introduces herself, she gives her a friendly wave. But then her gaze goes distant, and she seems to just completely zone out of the situation.

The doctor pauses in the doorway. "Perhaps," he says blandly.

And then before Syralana can reply or further press him, he heads down the hallway and into the lift.
