Synopsis: Ann teaches Cayde about lightsaaber smithing.
Cast of Characters: Annelia Belask, Cayde Alexis

Annelia Belask has posed:
While few people would call Annelia 'still' or 'subtle' in her day to day most of the time, there *are* moments she is rather still, calm, and focused. Usually takes fairly specific stimuli, and knowing the martially inclined Jedi...

Ann sits at a workbench off to the side of the training grounds, eyes focused and expression set to almost look grumpy. She has her own lightsaber largely disassembled, crystal resting carefully on a cushion to minimize potential scratches or such as she uses some long, slender tool to adjust a tiny component of the emitter.

It's something she's been spending more time on of late, Cayde would know- she's very forthright about believing every Jedi should be well versed in maintenance and repair in case of finding themselves in a predicament with a broken Saber on some outer rim colony.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde approaches her and watches her inquisitively as she adjusts something on her saber's kyber crystal. She might be able to feel his presence lightly touching hers, just casually curious about about what she's doing more specifically.

Annelia Belask has posed:
"Blade has been flickering on ignition more than I'm comfortable with," explains Ann without looking up at first. She makes one apparently-final tweak before setting the tool down.

Cayde likely can sense all too easily that her idea of 'too much' is probably pretty pedantic, truth be told.

She turns to face the Padawan, looking him over a few moments before asking: "Do you tend to your saber much, Cayde? I know many padawans get assistance with tuning and adjustments. Might be worth reviewing as you're reviewing the Forms- some of them favour particular hilt styles and all."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde isn't sure what Ann's definition of 'much' is, although he already has a feeling that it's probably more than most. He takes out his and puts it on the table in front of the cushion where her crystal lies, as if inviting her to take a look and decide for herself.

Annelia Belask has posed:
Ann looks over the saber a few moments- even ignites it a moment as she goes through the inspection. Letting it fall silent again as she offers it back, she nods slightly. "Figured you would be fine. Sense of responsibility like yours."

Handing the disembodied emitter to the padawan from her own saber, she tilts her head as she looks over him questioningly. "That tool I was using, and what you saw. Not a problem if you don't have an answer, but any guesses what the problem was?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
His lightsaber is in good shape, although probably not quite as pristine as hers. But she's probably not as picky about everyone else as she is on herself.

At her question, he looks a little bit embarrassed, not because he doesn't know the answer but because he does and it's not because he's actually that observant or knowledgeable. Suddenly, a memory replays in her mind--the day she noticed the flicker, and wasn't okay with it.

Annelia Belask has posed:
A pause from Ann, and she nods. "Well, I appreciate your implicit honesty in having picked it up. So you understand it in words, there's a wave-stabilization array in the emitter, and one of my recent clashes against the Saber-stand-in of a practice dummy knocked one of the array fins slightly out of alignment. The flicker was the array accommodating the slight misfire. Takes a delicate hand to fix, but the multitools in a proper maintenance kit help bridge the human error gap."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde does seem very attentive to what she's saying, but that blank stare definitely says he didn't really understand any of that. Droids usually handled lightsaber malfunctions for most padawans...

Annelia Belask has posed:
Ann pauses a moment, smirking and shaking her head after the moment's contemplation.

"Alright, well, if you want to learn the context on all that, we can add that to the docket to discuss and share. In the meantime, feel free to carry on as you are or have me take a look if something feels off."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods. [Should I study the books] he offers. There were whole sections in the Archives about lightsaber smithing.

Annelia Belask has posed:
"It's... you clearly know basic maintenance and were guided through creating a Saber. That's all you need, strictly speaking," Ann says, frowning slightly. "This is an interest of mine, but in my opinion worth learning more about. Self-sufficiency and all that. But taking this further is a jedi's own decision."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
True though, that if one were stuck in the Outer Rim somewhere and had a malfunction or if something broke, might be placed at a disadvantage. Cayde nods again. [You are right...I will study it]

Annelia Belask has posed:
"Well, I am working to improve at it too, so do not be shy with questions or a need to discuss finer points," Ann notes, nodding with a pleased sort of smile. "I think you would be good at it too. Your knack for the force would turn well to identifying the right crystals back on Ilum or such."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods once more. [Thank you Master] Then glances back over at her mostly disassembled lightsaber. Did she want to finish now? Or did she already have a lesson planned and wanted to get started immediately? Either way, he looks to her expectantly.

Annelia Belask has posed:
Following his glance with her eyes, she smirks a moment ad she considers the boy. "Tell you what- if you're interested, and you remember building yours- want to put mine back together?"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde hesitates a moment. Really? She seemed somewhat particular about it, would she really trust him to do it? Finally, he nods and moves over to the workbench. The pieces levitate off of the table as he begins to put it all back together, just how he'd always done in the past with his own blade.

Annelia Belask has posed:
"Relax, I'm not about to fold you up like a battle Droid if it's slightly off," assures Ann, chuckling. "You're doing fine. Good to stay in practice. Just one note I'll make- I swing hard. My saber is built sturdy. You can put a little more metaphorical muscle into tightening things up solid."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde nods, once the thing is pretty much together, he pulls it into his hands and tightens everything up in a more physical manner. As tight as it will go, without breaking anything of course.

Annelia Belask has posed:
Ann takes the weapon in hand then, rolling it with light tosses a few times. "Not bad. Once you learn some of the terms and tech you'll be up to speed in no time," she notes as she stows it back at her belt.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
There is a slight sense of relief at having done it to her satisfaction. He nods eagerly. [I will] he signs.

But he has another class soon. He'd been assigned some extra assignments and tutoring, due to his...difficulty with words.

The padawan bows slightly. [Thank you]

Annelia Belask has posed:
"No problem, Cayde. I'm sure next time we will turn out discussing something more typical for your talents," she says with a chuckle, shrugging and waving him along. "You'll do fine for classes. Fine day, Cayde."
