The art of verbal and written communication. It is assumed that everyone is fluent in Galactic Basic and their native tongue if different from Basic; this skill is meant to define ability in other languages besides those.

* 1 - 9: New language is completely unfamiliar
* 11 - 20: Conversational knowledge, but may have an accent
* 10 - 20: Able to discern some similarities to known language(s), enough to understand basics
* 21 - 30: Fluent or equivalent to native speaker
* 21 - 30+: Able to discern enough to engage in everyday conversation
*31+: Very advanced understanding, able to interpret or even compose abstract works of literature
