Stabilizing the Ship
Date of Scene: 26 February 2025
Location:
Synopsis:
Cast of Characters: 159, Cayde Alexis

Athena (159) has posed:
Outside the ship, the blizzard rages, as the group contemplates how to handle the situation.

The ship, for the most part is relatively secure, though it's likely that a few of them will need to stay outside to ensure that it stays that way.

However, after a few minutes, Yvon will re enter the ship, shaking and pale...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde had been busy focusing his efforts toward preventing the ship from falling or becoming unstable, until someone could repair the thrusters and get them airborne again. Then, hopefully they could pick up the rest of the group at a safer location. Hopefully, they're almost done now...

But then Yvon bursts back inside, looking as if he's about to have some kind of nervous breakdown. He looks toward the shaking Ugnaught expectantly. Had the thrusters been repaired?

Athena (159) has posed:
The Ugnaught doesnt reply, instead he just sits down in yhe passenger area, clutching his head desperately.

"Oh no no no no..." he mutters, to no one in particular.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde sighs, and tries reaching into Yvon's mind to see what the matter is and then attempt to calm him down. The padawan tries not to alert the Ugnaught to the fact he's doing this however, in case it would frighten him further.

Athena (159) has posed:
Well, not much to discover there, aside from the obvious. The Ugnaught wore his heart on his sleeve. They were stranded right above an icy ocean on a creepy planet he'd never been to before, with Navi and Anne potentially risking their lives to rescue strangers. Jahni was outside trying to fix the stabilizers, but one strong gust of wind might blow him off the precipice...

And then Yvon notices him staring. He yelps, and starts. "H-hey! What're you looking at me like that for?!"

Cayde Alexis has posed:
When Yvon yelps, Cayde quickly withdraws. [Sorry] he signs.

Then he gets up and puts a reassuring hand on Yvon's shoulder, patting him briefly. [Not to worry] he tells him, trying to insert the idea that he has nothing to fear as long as the Jedi were here. They'd take care of him and Jahni, whatever happened.

Athena (159) has posed:
The Ugnaught calms down, but he doesn't seem fully consoled. "If the Marshal ... dies! We are so kriffed. So kriffed," he moans. "And its not like The masters have any idea how to help my brother fix a dented stabilizer..."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
[Okay...I help him] Cayde assures him, nodding. He then heads outside to check on Jahni's progress and see if he needs any help. Or even just to keep an eye on him...make sure he doesn't fall or get blown away or something.

Athena (159) has posed:
But its snowing so hard outside that Cayde won't be able to get very far before becoming totally blinded by white!

But then he'll feel a strong arm on his shoulder, guiding him back inside the ship. <It's alright Cayde> Oona says to him. <Theyll be just fine. We need to get the ship ready to take off as soon as everyone's aboard>

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde hesitates a bit. But how could she be so sure? The storm was rather overwhelming, how could Jahni repair the ship in this without help?

But he eventually complies and goes back inside.

Athena (159) has posed:
Once theyre inside, Oona leads him to the cockpit. She smiles warmly at him. "Will you run a diagnostic on the shuttle's internal systems?" she says to Cayde.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
[Yes Master] Cayde acknowledges, nodding and going over to a terminal in the control room. He starts running some diagnostic scans, although he finds himself having trouble making heads or tails of the information. He's never really done this sort of thing before...

Athena (159) has posed:
It looks like some mechanisms are jammed, thought Cayde wont be able figure out which. He could ask Oona, but shes currently bent over the comm console, her brow furrowed...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
But maybe Jahni will be able to resolve the mechanical issues...and if not, then he could try to find out where the jams are and how to fix them. Cayde glances over at Oona, then back at the diagnostic results. He tries looking further into the error and warning messages, to see if he can figure out where the issues are and if they need to concern themselves with repairing them right now or not.

Athena (159) has posed:
Some of the messages remain a mystery, but one of them will become clear - The repulsorlift mechanism is jammed and wont extend. Perhaps Cayde coild go below deck and try to resolve the issue...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
They would need that to take off, right? In addition to the stabilizers, of course. Cayde steps away from the terminal and hurries down to the engineering deck, finding himself eager to go somewhere quiet. Just a little nudge with the Force, should get the repulsorlift unstuck...right?

Athena (159) has posed:
He'll hear Oona call his name as he runs down to the engineering deck, but she doesn't follow, at least not immediately.

When Cayde gets down to the engineering deck, he'll see that there are exposed wires here and there, and there's sparks showering down onto the floor near where the repulsorlifts are.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
    Oh...

When he hears Oona calling, he realizes maybe he should have told Oona where he was going or what he was doing. Noting the exposed wires and sparks, he pauses for a moment and reaches out to the elder Jedi through the Force to let her know that he was going to check the jammed repulsorlift.

Athena (159) has posed:
<Next time tell me before you run off> the elderly Mirialan chides the young padawan gently.

Now, about the sparking wires, Cayde will see that the repulsorlifts are jammed because some of the sparking wires have caused some of the thinner metal plating above the repulsorlifts to melt and fall onto it, jamming the mechanism...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
<Yes...sorry master...> Cayde answers, sighing. He stares at the melted plating, suddenly feeling the confidence in his capability to resolve this matter starting to wane rather quickly. He has no idea how to fix this...

Athena (159) has posed:
<Do you need help?> Oona asks him.

She seems to have sensed his confidence draining away.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
<Yes...thank you> Cayde admits, although there is still that undercurrent of frustration with himself. Why couldn't he get anything right? People often thought him much younger than he really is, and maybe that wasn't only because of his looks. So many things that appeared to be so simple for others, yet seemed insurmountable for him.

For some reason, he can't stop thinking about Master Tomi. Hopefully, the Arkanian is back to himself by now, at least for the most part, now that they'd dealt with the monster in the crypts.

Athena (159) has posed:
A few minutes later, Oona arrives on the scene. "Oh dear," she says. "That doesn't look good. Perhaps Yvon could help us. I'll go get him."

She disappears again, then reappears, with the Ugnaught in tow. He still seems a bit anxious.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde steps aside to allow Yvon to take a look at the situation, at the same time trying again to reach into his mind and calm the Ugnaught's nerves. This time, he tries not to look directly at him. Hopefully, this won't make him even more anxious...

Athena (159) has posed:
Thankfully, it works. The Ugnaught initially seems to think the problem insurmountable, but after Cayde reaches into his mind, he calms down and starts working on the jammed repulsorlifts.

Oona looks over at Cayde. "Is everything alright?" she asks the young padawan.

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde shifts uncomfortably when Oona asks him if everything is all right, then sighs heavily. <I hurt Master Pike....> he tells her, his gaze lowered. The more he thinks about it, the more all the times he accidentally harmed someone in one way or another due to a lack of control over his gifts come flooding into his mind. Tomi, and even Torkle Sunn. And those were just the recent ones.

Athena (159) has posed:
Oona embraces Cayde gently, patting him.

<You might not like to hear this, but everyone, at some point will hurt someone. Most likely multiple someones. You're not alone. And it's not a crime to make mistakes. You're young. You'll learn to make less as time goes on> Then she releases him.

<The others will be returning soon, let's go back up to the cockpit>

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Well...yes, he knows that. But it can't be denied that his gifts are more dangerous than most.

Still, he returns the embrace, feeling a little bit better. <Thank you>

He nods and follows her back to the cockpit.

Athena (159) has posed:
Shortly after he returns to the cockpit, he'll find Oona meditating in back corner quietly.

A few minutes later, Yvon will return and strap himself into navigator's seat.

"Jahni and Pike should be up shortly," he says, a hint of anxiety returning. "Stabilizer's fixed..."

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Cayde sits down next to him, in front of the comms terminal. He pats him on the shoulder gently, again attempting to calm the Ugnaught's nerves.

<Told you...everything will be okay> he reminds Yvon.

Athena (159) has posed:
"...right," the Ugnaught pilot says. He seems much calmer now, though a small fear that everything will turn out poorly and they won't make it back to the Temple lingers.

But he's not panicking anymore, so that's good news.

Now, all they had to do was wait for the others to return and board the shuttle, and then they'd head back to the Temple on Ilum...

Cayde Alexis has posed:
Relieved that Yvon didn't become frightened when he'd communicated via the Force, Cayde nods. He then re-focuses himself on making sure the ship doesn't become unstable, until Pike and Jahni are able to make it back inside. He glances down at the comms briefly though, wondering what Oona had been looking at before...
